I Voted

I voted today. Actually yesterday because the whole county is on a mail-in ballot system. No results will be available for at least four more hours, but I keep checking CNN and NPR just in case there's something new they can tell me. Besides the presidential election, is anything important on the ballot in your state?

We have a couple of interesting ones... one vote is whether or not to get rid of all income tax for the entire state... the other is to decriminalize pot, and the third is whether or not to outlaw dog racing.

We'll see how it turns out! Heather and I waited in line for over an hour to vote, but it was worth every minute!

If you even mention income tax in WA state people flip out (and if you're a politician, good luck). Our three initiatives were I-1000 (right to die, euthanasia) which passed,I-1100 (requires training and minimum standards for home health care aids) passed, and I-945 (supposed to reduce traffic congestion) which failed and I'm super happy about. The man who sponsored the initiative (that's all he does, sponsors initiatives!) and typically they suck tax money away from things that need it like libraries, public transit, all in the name of reducing fees. I-945 wouldn't have reduced any traffic, just opened up HOV lanes to 1 driver cars and re-timed traffic lights all using money that cities depend on for local traffic maintenance and repair.
