Cruise 2011

Okay ladies.. we totally need to make this cruise thing happen... and we totally need a "villa" when we do it!  Can you imagine, a week of Cottey people, all the entertainment of a cruise for the families (to keep them out of our hair, of course), a big space just for Cottey people to hang out while on a moving ship, going to a great international beach location??? Come on! We have to make this happen!!!!
Check out all the links for ideas, but we should so do this!  Sara, how old will Landon be in 2011? When are school breaks? Maybe we should plan to go for Turkey-day 2011? Alison, how old is your little one? And how many more little ones will we have by then? I can just see us all having so much fun on a trip like this!!!!  It WILL be awesome!!!

Whoa baby!! The villa looks AWESOME and they suggest them for reunions. But I finally, much, much searching, found a price - holy sh*t!

Love the idea though. Sounds perfect.

You know what they say about parties on boats though right? I don't know about cruises, I always want them to be more like the trans atlantic trips pre-airplane. More like "an affair to remember" (not the remake) where you dress for dinner and get pink champagne at the deck bar and stroll around at night. Now there are dance clubs and disney live musicals. But if they have croquet I am totally there. I have a thing for croquet.

If Holland America cruise ships are like they used to be (that cruise with my parents and grandma in what year...?) it was beautiful. The ship was fancy and the food was like Cottey food. That'd be cool. Then there's always those paddle wheel riverboats. We could take over one and eat southern food and invade civil war towns.

oh wow, how fantastic would that all be. i'm afraid to even ask what kind of price you found, heather. and honestly, i didn't take too close of a look...stuff like this just makes me kinda depressed about my current financial situation. 2011 isn't that far off really; who knows what kind of situation we'll be in then. ryan, i agree with you that the trans-atlantic "an affair to remember" type cruises sound most appealing. i love the thought though...a cottey cruise would be to die for.

You're right, Julia, 2011 isn't that far away. But I think it should be far enough to save up for a cruise!
If we realistically look at some prices, you can get good deals on inside cabins so that it's around $699 each (you need at least two people per cabin) and if you're willing to do four people per cabin (tight!) you can probably get the third and fourth person for $299 and split up all the costs.
I've been looking at cruises around seven nights leaving from Florida if that helps.
Maybe set up an ING account and throw a few dollars in every so often? Then you're getting interest on the money and it's hard to move back into your bank account.

uhhhhhh, you're talking to someone who just this month had to decide which bills to pay and which ones to let go into "past due" status, so the concept of a savings account is kinda foreign. what's and ING account? and trust me, if there's any way to make it work, i'm totally on board. i just have difficulty moving my brain out of "totally broke hippie" mode.

ING account... I'll link you (and anyone else interested, just let me know). I think they have a plan where if I recommend you we both get $25! So, lemme see...

It's an online bank kind of thing, you are able to transfer money from your bank account for free, whenever you want. Then it's in your savings account with them and they add interest while it sits there. You can transfer it back if you need it, though it takes a few days planning.

I'll send you an email from them...

Okay, I sent you a referral. You have to have $250 to get the bonus money, so that probably won't be happening, right? That's okay, you can still sign up anyway, and sometimes if you google it you can find other deals to get a $25 bonus for signing up, like friend of the military or something.
It's cool, I like it!
